Adventures in Church

Here's my journal entry from our first day at church.

June 13/10.

Life in the Lismore ward is a little different, but always entertaining.

During the sacrament today, our first day in the ward there was a young boy sitting in front of us. I would guess him to be about eight or nine years old, and it looks like he is wearing pajamas 2 sizes too small. The bottoms give him a muffin top and I can see his green underwear sticking out. He keeps running in and out. The best part of this story is that during the sacrament he chugged down a booger. However, this is no ordinary booger. I would guess that it was about a teaspoon in volume and was stretched 3-4 cm between his fingers as he lifted it over his mouth and lowered it in. It was very difficult for Spencer and I to keep a straight face while the sacrament was concluded.

Following sacrament, a boy came walking into the chapel eating a sandwich. His mother promptly gave him a quick scolding telling him to go finish his sandwich in the kitchen. As the sandwich boy left the room, our green underweared friend came in with a grocery bag full of lemons then sat down with his family like this was a completely normal experience.

Spencer and I tried to calm ourselves and really pay attention to the speaker who was a member of the bishopric. As we look up to the pulpit to hear the words that he has prepared, we see that he is several steps away from the pulpit with his back to us, blowing his nose into his hanky.

Looking back now that I know these people it's interesting to put names and connections to the faces. In some cases it makes the event understandable and in others it just makes it even more hilarious. Love to all.
